Brief Advice for Those New to the Casita Life

If you’ve never camped before - even a single night - in a RV travel trailer camper or motor home, and you’re waiting to pick up your new Casita at the factory, you may have many questions swirling in your mind as you contemplate the camping experiences awaiting you.

Foremost in your thoughts, no doubt, are questions about the essential items you’ll need for your first nights camping after you pick up your new Casita. The Casita factory includes a Water Hose and Water Pressure Regulator as standard equipment with standard and deluxe models, plus a Sewer Dump Hose with deluxe models. The propane tanks on your new Casita are empty so ask your Casita sales rep at pick up for the closest propane retailers they currently recommend. Plus, there are a few comfort essentials you should consider buying to take with you to pick up your new Casita.

One comfort essential you’ll probably want for the first camping nights are fold out chairs. We bought our newest (beach) chairs at Sam’s Club. Bedding materials - pillows, sheets, blank(s), and/or sleeping bags, if you’re already a tent camper - are also first night essentials. Keep your initial food menu simply with easy to prepare meals - like you’d pack a picnic basket, and include a roll of paper towels. Otherwise pack as you might for an overnight stay at a motel - but include a couple of towels, a roll or two of RV toilet paper, and a box of tissues.

My advice is to plan a few short “test run” camping nights with the bare essential equipment and food items the first few weeks you own your Casita. Spend the evenings of your first test run trips discussing and writing out your equipment and food packing lists - as your gain camping experience - for longer trips in the future. With that approach, you’ll buy and pack just those things you’ll really use on your trips. (Most campers, including us, are famous for over packing with never used clothes and gear.)

The Casita factory YouTube Channel has a number of videos you might watch to familiarize yourself with the camper as you anticipate life with your new Casita. The Casita factory website has some links to Casita and other manuals you might also review as you prepare for pick up and your first camping nights - make a list of questions to ask when you pick up your new Casita. Or, ask your questions on the CasitaLife Facebook group.
